The Committee – officially termed “the Council” in the constitution, but no-one calls it that nowadays – is elected on an annual basis. At present, there are eight offices, which are as follows: Hon. Correspondence Secretary (the chairperson), Records Secretary (the secretary), Treasurer, Public Relations Officer, two Entertainments Officers, Med Day Chair, and Med Day Secretary. Elections to the offices are held at the end of Hilary term. To be a candidate for an office, you must be a member of the Association of two years’ standing.
There are also ten “elective” places to elect OCMs (ordinary council members), two from each of the 1st to 5th years of Medicine. Elections for these can be held either at the end of Hilary term, or within the first two weeks of the following Michaelmas term.
The President of the Association is a distinguished individual associated with the School of Medicine, chosen by the Committee annually to act as the Association’s patron.
